Macintosh: The World Factbook data can be accessed in a variety of ways. There are 2 folders of additional resource materials beyond what is available directly within the World Factbook Database. * MAPS folder has the maps for the 247 countries in the following formats: PICT, PCX, and TIFF -- with and without city names. These are made available for import into your graphics program. * DATABASE folder has numerical data in a variety of formats so that you can import them into your favorite database or spreadsheet program and compare the data about all the countries! -- Find out which country has the lowest or highest birth rate / death rate / economic growth rate / GNP / etc. **** HyperCard Navigator Stack -- NEW FOR THIS RELEASE **** "World_Factbook_1991_Navigator" In HyperCard we have built a HyperCard "stack" to access the data in the following ways: search for country names, search for any text, find countries geographically, "zoom" in or out of geographic regions, and finally select countries alphabetically. Features include: 16 color maps of each country and b/w region maps, text descriptions of each country, 3 search types, and on-line help. The TextWare version below has additional text appendices about world organizations. **** TextWare retrieval **** "WWFB_91M.CTL" We have a full database in TextWare, which includes text descriptions of each country, color maps for each country, and text appendices about the United Nations, world organizations, and measurements. See the file "Contents.txt" for details on the contents of this CD-ROM. Getting Started: 1. Open the "MAC" folder. 2. Choose which method you wish to access the data a) TextWare: double click on the "WWFB_91M.CTL" icon. (Features full text, plus appendices, fast searches, and the ability to print the maps! ) b) HyperCard: double click on the "World_Factbook_1991_Navigator" icon. (Features Geographical Navigation + selection) 3. HyperCard Hints Help is available under the "Help" Menu 4. TextWare Hints Help is available under the "Apple" Menu. For more detailed help, double click on the "_TWDOC.CTL" icon. * You may choose to run TextWare from your own hard drive, to do this: 1. copy the folder "MAC" to your hard drive. 2. make sure the CD is in your CD-ROM drive and mount on the desktop. 3.
